Fleet Businesses Turning Away Work
Roughly 35 per cent of the transport businesses are turning down work. They have to turn down the jobs because of the high fuel costs they are dealing with. A poll of 1,480 fleets in the UK found that 528 have high fuel costs and are turning down work on a daily basis. Those questioned did agree that the cost of fuel is definitely crippling their business. Many say they have at least 15 per cent losses due to fuel increases. This is in the last three years.
Fleet companies are certainly feeling the pressure, but they are also the most important to the UK economy since most fleets provide essential services such as goods, services, and more.
The research survey has also showed that fleet companies are trying to reduce their fuel costs. In the last 12 months about 17 per cent have reduced their fuel costs by reducing the number of drivers on the road. It is hurting employment numbers. There are some who are using fuel cards for small businesses but even the fuel cards cannot counteract all the increases with fuel. The taxes applied by the government also have to be changed in order for businesses to stop turning away work.
